Hi,

I need to create an hourly weather data and I am doing so by downloading an existent weather file from the website, converting it from .epw to .csv using the Weather Data Converter in the Tools>Hourly Weather Data. I opened the .csv with Excel, edited one value (just to check if it works) and saved the file as a .csv. The first error comes up saying that the file may not be compatible with the .csv format. Using again the Weather Data Converter I tried to convert the .csv to .epw and this time the following error is encountered: Error processing the hourly weather file is possibly caused by a format error. What's causing the error? Since I just changed only one value in the excel sheet?

Any help?

thanks,

Carl.

There are a couple possible problems.

1) you need to tell the weather converter on input that it is a EnergyPlus CSV format. This is a somewhat specialized format.

2) you need to have your "regional settings" as US or things may be weird.

3) if you need to keep your regional settings as something else, then you will need to supply a .def file to the weather converter and use a "custom" format.

If all else fails, you can send your files to the helpdesk and maybe we can help further.

thanks for your reply,

for suggestion 1: I am setting the output format to- EnergyPlus CSV format from the options tab when converting from .epw to.csv and setting the output format to Energy Plus data files when converting back from .csv to.epw

If by regional setting you mean the settings of my computer, they are set to my region, which is Malta. And I am also trying to modify an existing data file which is taken from a European country, thus the date format should be the same.

Even when I just convert from .epw to .csv and then from .csv to .epw without changing anything, the same error comes up. I also noticed that when I first convert from .epw to .csv the converted files are stored in: C:\ProgramData\DesignBuilder\WeatherData\ as stated in the Info dialog box, but when I try to convert back from .csv to .epw from the input data step, the file can't be found. But if I copy the file from C:\ProgramData\DesignBuilder\WeatherData\ to another location, then I can find it. Does this copy and pasting may contribute to the error?

And right now I do not have my own files as for the moment I am trying to modify an existing .epw file to .csv and vice-versa before initiating to input my own hourly data.
