|

Hello.
I’m modelling a space having an external wall which is almost completely glazed. A part of the entered solar radiation is reflected by the internal surfaces and it exits through the glazed surface towards the external environment. I think that for my case that part is not negligible. I’m therefore using the “Full interior and exterior” solar distribution model. Is the reflected part towards the external environment taken in account in the simulation output? Does the output “Solar gains exterior window” consider only the entering shortwave radiation or is it the difference between the entering and the exiting shortwave radiation?

Hello,
The solar fraction re-reflected back out of the zone is included in the simulation regardless of the option you choose though if you choose the full interior and exterior option you should get better accuracy.
You can get E+ to report the re-reflected value through one of the (I can't find the report name right now but I'm pretty sure it is available)

Thank you very much!
I will search in E+.
I have not understood what the output “Solar gains exterior window” is exactly. Does it consider only the entering shortwave radiation without considering how much is re-reflected back out of the zone?

Francesco,
The "Solar gains exterior window" output is the total solar gain transmitted through exterior windows. Some of this will be re-reflected back outside again.
We are considering subtracting the re-reflected solar from this in future versions and re-labelling the solar data on Heat balance graph as "Solar absorbed" which would be more appropriate, I think, as part of the zone heat balance.
