HVAC Issues

My building has very complex HVAC systems; i have tried to model them to the best of my abilities. The building has underfloor heating and cooling by heat pumps in only two zones (I used a generic air loop instead of a heat pump so that I could delete the heat coil). I am currently getting this error message:

Building 1 - HVAC Error code: -1:
Building 1 - Error in HVAC definition

I have attached my file. Can anyone help me?

Hi,

There are two problems with your model. Firstly, you have placed a zone group (Zone Group/1/1) which has no HVAC equipment associated with it. You will need to add equipment to this zone group and connect the equipment or if it is not required, just delete the zone group altogether.

The second problem is that you have added heated floors to zones that have no internal source floor construction. You will need to create a construction that has an internal source either by copying an existing construction or creating a construction from scratch and then you can click on the Internal Source tab of the Construction dialog to set up the internal source. You can then assign these special constructions to all zones that have heated floors.

Unfortunately there is a bug in the DB error reporting routine of the current release which is why you see a -1 displayed rather than the Heated floor defined for zone without internal source message that you would normally see and that would have led you to the problem straight away. This bug has now been fixed and the fix will be incorporated in the next release.

I have changed the problems that you have mentioned, and I am still getting the same error. Any other ideas?

Christi,

Yes, there is one other problem with your model that I neglected to point out. You need to assign at least one zone that is served by the DHW water outlet, Water Outlet 2.

Can a DHW zone also be choosen when using "Detailed HVAC" in model options?
