Hi,

I was taking a look to the green roof example and I don't understand one thing. With the green roof the building has less heating and cooling consumption, but the roof looses are higher with the eco-roof.

On the other hand, if you don't want all the roof surface t become a green roof, only some arts of it, how can you do that? with sub-surfaces?

Thanks!

When running the example file for a full year for the Eco roof and standard roof cases, the roof heat transfer is moderated by the eco roof - less loss in winter and less gains in summer, which is what I'd expect. An average of 10kWh per day throughout the year.

Summer heat loss for the eco roof is greater perhaps because of evaporation? That is one of the purposes of the eco roof.

Thanks for your answer Andy. And regarding to my second question, can you use subsurfaces on the roof? I have different parts with plants, with paths, concrete...

Thanks!!!

Yes you can use sub-surfaces on the green roof.

Hi Andy,

in the visualitation you can't see the roof thickness, can you? It's always the same? If I need to have different parts on the roof (different heights), I can't see it in the visualitation, but they appear in the thermal calculations. Is like that?

I try to explain my model: I have drawn a component block working as overgang around the roof of the building (you can see something similar in another post of mine "vertical blinds doubt"). But I've drawn it higher than the building roof. Know I want to draw another block on the top, but someparts are on the component block, and I don't kinow if I have to take into account the thickness of the roof.

Thanks!

You can simply place the shading component block touching the roof in the model view. To get a clearer understanding of the geometry being simulated it is useful to view the 3D dxf file generated by E+.
