|

Hi,
got quite a complex shape of roof. Think the only way to build it is to have a big square block then gradually keep dividing it and deleting unwanted parts.
Sometimes I'm having to divide the same block a couple of times and reaching a point where it isn't willing to cut it anymore when I'm using building blocks.
I started using outline blocks instead. I'm sure you can imagine my frustration, when after spending hours sculpting my roof, I tried to convert the blocks to building blocks I received the error message "Can't fit block slabs" for a few of the blocks.
Even if this does work part of my roof is inhabited and is currently split into multiple blocks. I really want to make these blocks into 1 block. How do I do that?
Does anyone have any suggestions how to get round this?
I'm using version 1.8.1.001 if that makes a difference. |

Hi
To deal with your particular situation it would probably be best to send some diagrams to explain what you are trying to do.
You cannot create one block out of many but you can merge zones to create one zone. Look this up using the online help facility. (Model Options-Advanced Tab-Simplification).

| I would convert the blocks one at a time until i got an error and then undo and then try reducing floor height or wall widths or something. |

Hi Ewan,
Ive had this problem many times. Firstly, i'd advise you to update your designbuilder version.
When it comes to cutting blocks, i've found that its best not to cut right into the corner of a block but to cut maybe 10 or 15 centimetres up or along from the corner. It seems to prefer this. As for having multiple blocks over only one block, i dont think it makes a difference in terms of the final calculation.
Hope this helps. Have a good one mate.

Hi,
I had a similar problem a couple of weeks ago and updated to the current beta version which now seems to have helped as the cutting tool has been improved.
