Hi Andy,
When studying prEN15203:2005 I found that it’s necessary to calculate energy use for hot water, and the need to input uses, schedules etc. to obtain the ratings (operational, asset, etc.)
Is it possible to calculate this energy use in DesignBuilder?
Best regards,
Miguel Nery

Hi Miguel,
There is no way to model hot water generation and usage in DesignBuilder at the moment, but we will be working on implementing this in the next few weeks. At the moment we are planning to provide options for the way hot water consumption is specified in the interface:
- total annual building hot water consumption
- hot water consumption per person in each activity
- ...
National/regional building energy codes/regulations differ and so I would be interested to hear from you or any other DesignBuilder user how you would like to specify hot water consumption. Would the above two options be enough?
Thanks
Andy

Hi Andy,
For the moment I’m just studying “prEN 15203:2005 – Energy performance of buildings – assessment of energy use and definition of rating”, that is supposed to be the base for the one you use to check energy performance of buildings (prEN 15217).
To calculate energy use for hot water CEN indicates prEN wi11.
I still don’t have this one, but may you can get it easily.
As an IDEA of what was necessary for EN832 I join a print screen of the program energy balance (from I.D.E.A. - Interactive Data Base for Energy-efficient Architecture).
Best regards,
Miguel

Yes EnergyPlus has an object called "Domestic Hot Water" which allows hot water generation and consumption to be modelled in a relatively simple way.
Here is some example data from the on-line help:
DOMESTIC HOT WATER,
DHW 1, !- Name
Demand DHW 1 Inlet Node, !- Hot Water Demand Node (Inlet Node)
Demand DHW 1 Outlet Node, !- Cold Water Supply Node (Outlet Node)
0.000189, !- Peak Volumetric Flow Rate {m3/s}
DHW 1 Flow Frac Schedule, !- Flow Rate Fraction Schedule
Mains Temps; !- Cold Water Supply Temperature Schedule
This is the object we plan to provide an interface to.
Regards
Andy
