Dear All,

I´m simulating a small building where there
are four zones which must be connected in order to assure that any air which is cooled or heated eventually, must freely circulate between them and from a zone to the other.

It´s a Stairway zone, divided in to two zones (didn´t have other choice), that connects the first floor zone (a Living Room) to the second floor zone, which is a Hall. The Stairway must be an independent zone which is not thermally treated. They must not be modelled like only one zone.

I´m aware of the option "Merge zones connected by holes" but I only want to make sure that the zone stairway is created and that there is air freely circulating throw the three zones. I want to assure that the stairway connecting floor 0 and floor 1, is only one zone. How can I acquire this without merging the other zones?

I´m thinking about using the "virtual partition" option, but I´m not sure how EnergyPlus is going to interpret this?

Thanks for the help
Nuno

Hello Nuno,

The merging zone option is a general option so you couldn't merge your staircase only.

To manage this it is better to draw a vertical block for the staircase and draw the story block around your staircase block. This method allows to not use the general merging option.

Regards,
Laurent
