Chilled Ceiling

Hello Andy,
How can I model the chilled ceiling system in DesignBuilder? As it is a built in option for DesignBuilder and by defining the zones only (using template) I can run the simulation. But I am not sure how it is simulated. I tried in help menu and I have not find any particular documentation. For instance, how much of the ceiling can I chilled? Can I define few chilled panels? or The whole ceiling is considered when I mark the zones using template? I urgently require to find the solutions. Please reply ASAP.

Hello Ashfaque,

DesignBuilder does not yet have an accurate chilled ceiling modelling capability - the chilled ceiling and HVAC template simply uses an air system and includes standard UK system efficiencies to estimate the likely energy consumption of these systems.

However, as you are probably aware, EnergyPlus does have detailed chilled ceiling modelling capabilities and you may wish to consider using DesignBuilder to generate the basic model and then add the chilled ceilings using IDF script in the IDF editor outside DesignBuilder.
