Your settings input lighting visible fraction as .18.
18% efficient lightning is well above anything used in buildings. fluorescents are 8-14% efficient and incandescentsare 2% efficient. |

The default lighting data used in DesignBuilder comes from the "Lighting Handbook: Reference & Application, 8th Edition, Illuminating Engineering Society of North America, New York, 1993, p. 355." as recommended in the EnergyPlus manual.
Can you point me to a reference of more appropriate values? I will pass this on the E+ support and review the data supplied with DB.

I have a notebook compendium of efficiency from multiple sources. But this wikipedia article has accurate data for luminous efficiency of a few light types:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luminous_efficacy
(see table 2/3rd the way down)
Perhaps the 18% from your source is luminous Efficacy not luminous efficiency. 18% would be a reasonable number of incandescent efficacy.
But EnergyPlus uses visible fraction of the input energy, which is efficiency, not efficacy. |
