I have searched the help file for this, but have had no luck. Does anyone know of a way to have different ceiling heights within one zone? The main interior portion of the building I am working on has a 17 ft. high ceiling, but there is a soffit around the perimeter that drops down 8 ft. I could split the space into multiple blocks, but would prefer not to: Supply vents are just below the ceiling and returns are in a different room; I do not want to try to estimate the flow between the two blocks.

Thanks,

Mike

Mike,

If I understand your question, you could try this approach:

1. Draw a central zone into the block (central space). It is a good idea to draw very thin partitions. See figure 1.

2. Set floor/slab/ceiling as 2.Separated in Model option data. Also, you may want to set inactive the Include constructions in zone volume options.

3. Go to both zones (central and perimeter), active the Suspended ceiling? option and enter the desired suspension height in each one.

4. Draw holes to fill the entire free surfaces in central space partitions.

5. Active the option Merge zones connected by holes in Model options advanced tab.

You can see the volumetric result in the figure 2. However, with this procedure you have just one zone in simulations results.

I hope it helps.

Regards,

Arturo

Thanks, Andy. I started moving along these lines after posting. The single-zone analysis shouldn't be a problem.
