Refer attached image db-geometry-bug.png rendered by TrueView 2007 after EnergyPlus 2.1.0 run, and corresponding view from DesignBuilder db-correct-geometry.png of geometry as expected.

Geometry modelled in DesignBuilder 1.4.0.044, eyebrow concrete panels and fin panels modelled as component blocks to provide solar shading to windows.

It appears that the eyebrow panel on the -Y side of the building cuts straight through the building ..... notice also that funny things happen with the fence in the background as well.

Is this behaviour expected?

Regards,

Mark Carey

Hi Mark,

Has the data that is being rendered by TrueView been generated by EnergyPlus?

Steve,

Short answer I believe is yes.

dsb converted to idf by DesignBuilder
dxf produced by EnergyPlus

As you correctly suggest it could be a Geometry Generation problem in DesingBuilder or similar issue in EnergyPlus.

Would a copy of the relevant parts of the idf file help?

Cheers,

Mark

Chris,

It would be more helpful if you could upload your .DSB file to the forum.

Steve

DesignBuilder Model (.dsb) file and the compact.idf file generated by DesignBuilder

If the compact.idf file is run from EPLaunch EnergyPlus gives a number of Warnings most are related to convergence temperatures but the geometry warnings look like;

** Warning ** DeterminePolygonOverlap: Too many figures [>15000] detected in an overlap calculation. Use Diagnostics,DisplayExtraWarnings; for more details.

** Warning ** DXFOut: Could not triangulate surface="W_8175_2_0_0", type="Wall", check surface vertex order(entry)

As I mentioned before it could be an EnergyPlus problem but the more looking I have done it appears to be DesignBuilder.

As mentioned before using DesignBuilder 1.4.0.044

Chris,

I tried simulating your model with the current beta version of DB which uses version 2.2.0.024 of EnergyPlus and experienced no problem at all. However I did try simulating the model with an earlier version of EnergyPlus (1.4.0.025) and came across the same errors that you reported so it looks as though this was indeed a problem in EnergyPlus but something that has since been fixed. I would suggest that you download the latest beta of DB.

Regards,

Steve
