Heat Flow in Separate Constructions and Excel edition

Hi all,

Two more questions:

1) Working with 'Separate Constructions' should produce the same results as 'Combined Constructions'? (It's the same, just different form for introducing data, right?).

I had worked all the time with 'Combined', but I need to use 'Ground Construction' which is only available to 'Separate Constructions'. It's too much time-consuming check and change all the constructions to 'Separate'. But, it should be the same to use a Ground Construction at site level with the option 'Separate Constructions' and to use 'Combined Construction' with a Slab (in contact to ground) that includes the thick layer of ground under the slab, right?

2) The second question is not about DesignBuilder actually. It's about edition in Excel, hope someone knows Smile

The problem is that I can export the results of DB to a excel file, but if the report is hourly, I have 720 cells in a month. I want to show a 'typical day' for each month (Temperature averaged for each hour over the 30 days), but I don't know how to do it in Excel. I mean, 'manually' it would be something like "A1+A25+A49+..." which is very slow, do you know a formula to write it in compact form?

In response to question 2, yes, there is a better way, however it still requires a fair bit of setting up depending how much info you want to analyse.

Are you familiar with microsoft visual basic as it applies to excel? Having exported a .dat file as comma delimited you can then import this into excel and use commas, spaces and / characters as delimiters to break up the input data into the required fields.

I have just spent some time writing up some code that will do what you need it to do, however the specific cell references etc. would need to be tailored to your needs.

The code is quite simple in essence, being basically 3 nested for loops checking month, day and time and outputting temperature values to a pre-defined area that has a space allocated for each hour (0-23) for each month so 24 x 12 = 288 spaces. The temperature values are added to the cells existing value as the code steps through, giving a total sum for that hour of the day for each month. A counter variable is also increased by one each time a matching value is found. The temperature sum is divided by the counter sum to give average temperature.

If you are not confident to write this into visual basic code or if all that made no sense at all, give me a message and I'll figure out a way of getting you the code as it is, along with some instructions on how to fix it to your needs.

Hi Andrew,
I know I can import a comma delimited .dat file into excel, but I have never done anything with Visual Basic.

Please, may I see the code you wrote? How much do I have to learn about Visual to work and modify a code like yours?

I'm going out these week, but also a friend told me that maybe it's easier to work it with Statistica, so I hope he didn't just made a comment and next week teach me that program.
