Design builder Export to idf file - Important Information

Dear DB Team

Using DB v1.2, when we export to Energy Plus v1.4, it is created an idf file.

Can we trust that all the building characteristics have been correctly exported?

Is there anything that we have to check and correct in the idf file?

Hi,

Everything is exported to EnergyPlus so it can simulate your model.
The only exception is the weather file. You have to set it again in the EPLaunch dialog.
So take care to use the same in DesignBuilder and EPLaunch.

Hi Laurent

Thank you for your answer. The only thing that I have noticed is that the U-Values change a little bit from Design Builder to the EnergyPlus idf file.
Why does that happen?

Hello,

Take care, there are no U-values in EnergyPlus. Materials are defined with either a R-value or Lambda / density / heat capacity.

The only U-values I know in EnergyPlus are those reported in predefined reports.

In all cases, EnergyPlus uses the R or lambda data for its simulation.
If you compare different U-value, they can be different because of external conditions or method used by software.
