Some DesignBuilder users may have noticed that the results generated by recent versions of DesignBuilder (v.1.6.7 and later) are different from those generated by previous versions. In some cases the differences are significant. The most likely reasons for these are that the new versions of DB use SBEM 3.2.b instead of version 3.1.a. The differences are summarised by BRE as:

The development of SBEM version 3.2.b incorporated improvements to the calculation algorithms, added features, modifications to some of the underlying databases, and correction of identified minor bugs. Hence, the generated results may differ either way from those generated by previous versions, depending on the individual projects.

Users also need to know that SBEM 3.2.b uses a different system to identify accredited Energy Assessors. Previous verison of SBEM required users install a special 'non-watermark EPC generator' provided by the accreditation scheme. SBEM 3.2.b requires use of an authorisation key, again obtained from the accreditation schemes. This key has a format like:

011.01012009.8001.3DA0E32754A3462462FF8C3408F83BD0D121B802759B7744753D302C6C0ED616

When the correct key is entered the software will:

a) Allow XML files to be generated

b) Remove the watermark from E&W and N. Ireland EPCs. Scottish EPCs never have watermarks and don't require XML files.
