Hello,

I have a question to set up roof glazing.
I've created a new template with "Preferred Heigth" option, set my heigth, my % and window spacing.

But the building layout generated is always a continuous glazing.
It seems that % and window spacing are not taken into account.
Could you tell me how use this option ?

Suggestions :

1) I've tried "Fixed width and height" option. The size was correct but I discover that spacing is from a side of a window to the same side of the following window.
It means window spacing includes the window width of the first window.
I think that spacing should only be distance between windows.

2) Is it possible to, either update the building layout when a template is changed (and of course this template is used by the model) or add an update button to refresh the layout ? By now, to see changes, I have to go in the correct tab, choose another template and then re-select the good (first) one.

Thank you,
Laurent

Sorry, I've forgot a suggestion !

3) Would it be possible to add a parameter in the glazing template which will manage a space to let on the right and/or left of the glazing generation area ?
Presently, generated glazing without window spacing are "sticked" to the left (or right ?) side of the block.
It could be interesting to have an offset from which glazing is generated. This option has sense for continuous glazing, prefered height or any non fixed glazing generation, I think.

Thank you again !
Laurent

Hi Laurent

In answer to your three questions:

1. There are currently two options for automatic roof glazing layouts:

a) 100% glazed
b) Fixed width and height

The 'preferred height' option only applies to external and internal glazing.

The 'Window spacing' parameter perhaps uses the wrong terminology, it actually refers to the width of the wall segment into which each window is positioned. We can think of changing the term for this parameter and perhaps introducing a 'Window spacing' parameter for fixed width windows.

2. I'm not sure I understand this point correctly. When you change model data, any modification that has an effect on the appearance of the model should be seen immediately, e.g. if you change the % glazing from say 30% to 80% you should notice the windows increase in size. Data controlled by sliders and check boxes will be updated as you adjust the control whereas edit boxes should turn yellow and the graphical update will occur when you move the mouse back over the edit screen.

3. Yes, that's an interesting possibility.

Regards

Steve

Hi, Steve,

Thank you for your explanations.
Windows spacing is all right, I don't know why I interpret it as space between windows ! Sorry.

For the second point, I think it's the consequence of my wrong selection. I didn't know that roof glazing layout were limited to '100%' or 'fixed'. So when I tried the other options the building layout didn't change. But that's normal since these options are not available.
May be, could you filter automatic roof glazing generation options to the only two options taken into account ?

Best regards,
Laurent

Hi Laurent

I'm not quite sure what you're seeing here but when I look at the 'Layout' options under 'Roof Glazing' on the Model Data Openings tab, I can only see 100% glazed plus the fixed width and height options.

Hi Laurent

Okay - I see what you mean, you're creating a new roof glazing layout. Yes you're quite right, you shouldn't be allowed to select these other options for roof glazing. We'll take a look at preventing it.

Thanks

Steve

Starting from release 1.2.0.027 DesignBuilder will only allow the 'none', 'fixed width and height' and '100% glazing' options for Roof facade templates.
