Thanks to John Holt who has just emailed me some very useful information on how to get DesignBuilder (and many other programs) working reliably in Windows Vista.

If you just wish to change versions of the software after the compatibility settings have been set then no issues present themselves unless the PC is turned off in between.
We discovered this after we where sporadically to successfully install AutoCAD 2006, Hevacomp and DesignBuilder, we then in desperation loaded the service pack one for Vista (which has a graphic update for Autocad), and everything worked), we then assumed it was SP1 that was the solution, but the problem re-appeared.
It then occurred to us that the problem was cured when the program compatibility flag / regerestry / ? (I do not know the correct name) was cleared, this occurs when the program is removed and restarted - not just when the program is removed and when SP1 is installed which is virtually a complete re-installation of the operating system (which clears the above as well).
The problem applies to all programs run in the compatibility mode
Hope this helps, please pass on to other users, we found out the hard way after many hours cursing Bill Gates, when the solution is very very simple but not documented or obvious. |

| I still have my designbuilder working very bad in windows vista. Wath can I do to solve that problem? I'm not sure if I gone buy designbuilder to make my simulation, but if it doesn´t work in windows vista I can't buy him. |

Could you describe the problem on your vista computer?
What graphics card do you have? I ask about the graphics card because some recent ATI card drivers have very poor OpenGL compatibility.

| Thats correct: i am using a Vista box with a ATI Radeon 3600 series and the problem is the ATI card. |

I have one ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600. Seams that the problem is the ATI card.
The problem that I have is, for example,when I made a new zone seams that the program crash. I needs too much time to build a new zone or a new block.
I can't find new drivers for my graphic card.
So, to solve my problem I need to change my graphic card? |

with Vista, I changed the desktop theme, replacing theme Aero. with the traditional

| Just for information. From version 1.9 DesignBuilder has been running happily for us on Vista 64Bit with an Nvidia 8800GTX card. |

I was having issues starting design builder in vista. With a Intel 945 express graphics card on my laptop the program wouldn't start, I would get "couldn't initalize open gl" and would boot me out.
I was able to get around that problem by going to device manager and disabling my graphics card, windows will then switch to generic graphics settings. This allowed me to open design builder. Once I opened design builder, I would just enable my intel graphics driver again and the program works no problem. |

About Windows 7, I installed it, and tried to run it. But got a message "DesignBuilder can't write in the repertory C:/program.../Design Builder, and is going to close." (quick translation).
May be linked to the limited rigths there are by defaults in Windows 7. But I can't fix it.
Any idea ? |
