Q1. I would like to model the ramp inside the building but i don't know how to do it. Can u give some comment?

Q2. Can i divide a floor to different blocks? For example, i divide a block into two. Then i make a hole in the inter-block partition.Does it makes any different with a floor without the division?

Thanks

Regards,

Kashirachiam,

1. We are currently working on a new feature for DesignBuilder to allow building components such as staircases and ramps to be easily modelled in the way that you want. These will become available in version 2 next year.

Assuming that your main requirement is to ensure that the thermal mass of the constructions used to create the ramps is taken into account in your thermal analysis, this can be achieved by either adding thermal mass on the Construction tab or by drawing hanging partitions in the zone containing the ramp. You can find more information about modelling thermal mass in the on-line help.

2. The answer to this question depends on the model settings used. If you have 'Merge zones connected by holes' (on the Advanced tab of the Model options dialog) set then the two zones either side of the interblock partition are modelled as a single zone in the EnergyPlus simulation. If you do not have this option set then the two zones are modelled individually with airflow exchange between them. The way this airflow exchange is modelled depends on the Ventilation model setting on the main Data tab. Again, more information on this is available in the on-line help.

I hope this helps.

Andy
