Shocked
hello!
i was running my building with a monthly simulation for the whole year and i noticed that in the output results every month there is a "heating delivered" and a "cooling delivered".
what is this due to?
maybe it's because of mechanical ventilation?
it's very strange because i set precise schedules of timing..
i was not expecting this result at all and i think it's quite a big error..
how to fix it?
thanks for your time!
ele.

moreover if i delete mechanical ventilation and put natural ventilation or even nothing in every zone i have no heating or cooling at all.
what's going on with this program?

i also noticed that when i create a new kind of wall/roof/partition... the computer change it by himself and it takes several overwrites to have it in the way i needed..
sometimes it even doesn't change at all..
that's not nice..
due to all these problems i can't be sure at all of the results i get with the software. is it a problem of my version or it happens often?
i hope someone will answer asap.. Sad
thanks.

I have discovered a similar thing when I am using mechanical ventilation only on an unconditioned building. I am using mech ventilation to provide a minimum no. of air changes for air quality and combining it with natural ventilation for temperature control. The part of the air supplied by the mechanical ventilation seems to be counted as heating/cooling delivered. However, I find it odd that in your model this does not occur in all zones (only in the halls).

Andy, is my interpretation right. If so would it not be possible to separate out cooling/heating caused by mechanical ventilation as opposed to cooling/heating delivered by the HVAC system.

Heating/Cooling delivered

"Cooling delivered" is the cooling effect on the space(s) due to the HVAC system, including the effect of mechanical ventilation even when active cooling is switched off. So it includes the effect of cooler outside air being introduced into a relatively warm zone. Likewise "Heating delivered" is the heating effect of the HVAC system which may include the heating effect of fans, heating coils and warm outside air. Please note that Cooling/Heating delivered data indicates "heat to the space" and not energy consumption.

So, yes, it is possible to separate out the cooling effect of mechanical ventilation and natural ventilation. Mechanical ventilation cooling is indicated by "cooling delivered" and natural ventilation by "natural ventilation".

Does this explanation help you understand your results better?

There was a bug version 1.2.0.034 in compact HVAC where DesignBuilder required mechanical ventilation to allow heating or cooling to work. This has been fixed now in beta test version 1.2.0.041 (available now).

maybe i understood...
but..
where can i check the energy consumption for heating and cooling if it's not that one the line?
and what about the problem of the materials that are changing by themselves in the construction of a wall?
is it also a bug?
has it been fixed?
thanks,
ele.

Energy consumption is displayed at the building level as boiler and chiller fuel consumption.

I haven't been able to reproduce the problem you mention with materials 'changing by themselves'. Could you please check whether this is happening with the new version?

Thanks,

Andy

thanks for this message!
this is a precious information for the whole department of the university where i am doing the diploma now!maybe we had some problems with english... Very Happy
i am simulating again the building with the new version..
later i will try to see if the problem of the materials created is still existing or not..
by the way this bug was not just in the version 34 but also in the 28 (in the previous ones i don't know) and i've heard also other people working with the software to have troubles with this creation of walls..
i will write you when i will have some news about it!
thanks!!!!!!!

i tried to create a new wall and it has the same problem as the previous versions..
after i save it, if i open it again to edit i find out that the layers are changed..just the thickness of them is still the same..
Sad
the energy consumption now is ok!
thanks!

My new topic (how to edit construction data) deals with the same problem. Sorry, I hadn't read this one completely.

But yes, designbuilder keeps on changing data in walls/roofs/... by itself.

Now I first make a copy of a existing model, insert it in the construction page and then I change that model. It gives a little improvement but it stil keeps doing it...

The bug with construction layer data being lost is now fixed - an update should be available in the next few days.

Thanks for your patience,

Andy
