Dear support,

I' m calculating a radiant floor for a residential building. I noticed that the "heating radian fraction" in HVAC settings is a decisive factor for radiant floor performance.
I'm usually base my calculations on the power yield of the radiant floor (for example 50 W/m2, without considering the radiant/convective component). Can you explain me how can I set this value?
Can you suggest me an appropriate heating radiant fraction for a generic radiant floor?

than you!

Regards

Daniele

Daniele,

We usually recommend a value of 1 for radiant heated floors. This may seem surprising, but the reason is that in simple HVAC radiant floors are modelled using a radiant heater component radiating to the floor surfaces. So ideally all of the radiant heaters energy should radiated to the floor from where it can be re-radiated to the other zone surfaces and with some small amount of convection too.

In detailed HVAC in v3 you can create a more detailed model incluidng hot water pipes buried in the construction.
