Daylighting Analysis

Hi there,

My company is thinking about purchasing DesignBuilder. We are currently researching the product and are wondering if it is possible with your daylighting analysis to get quantitative outputs (in footcandles), versus showing qualitative information (in colors).

Allison,

You can get numeric output by setting the 'Show as' data to 'Grid'. You can export this data in spreadsheet format by clicking on the export toolbar button. The screenshot below shows how to do this.

DesignBuilder does not generate any specific daylighting output though EnergyPlus in its pure form does. DesignBuilder will show the effect of daylighting control on the electric light output but not generate lighting output.

You could load the IDF file generated by DesignBuilder into the EnergyPlus editor and request specific daylighting output from there. Please refer to EnergyPlus documentation to find out more about this.
