Hi,

I've a problem with windows frames. When I draw a custom window on a facade, the program applies frames only to default windows and not to the custom window. This doesn't happen with Local shadings which appear both on default and custom windows.

Could you help me please?

Best Regards
Alessandra

Hi,

The custom windows are controlled by the openings tab corresponding to the wall you have designed your windows.

So, when you have erased the default openings, and you draw some customs windows, go to the openings tab and try to change characteristics for the openings, such as type in dimensions submenu or type of frame and number of dividers in frame submenu, these new parameters should apply to all the custom windows you draw on the wall.

For all that I know about DesignBuilder, the limitation of this is that the parameters in the openings tab apply to all the windows on a same wall. So, you can't draw a window with 1 vertical divider and 1 other with horizontal divider. Maybe I am wrong, Andy should confirm.

Hope that helps
Franck

Hi Alessandra,

DesignBuilder should apply frames to all windows whether they are default windows generated internally or custom windows which you have drawn. However horizontal and vertical dividers are only applied to rectangular windows (again regardless of whether they are default or custom).

This seems to be a fairly logical restriction and EnergyPlus does not allow dividers in non-rectangular windows in any case.

Franck is correct in saying that you can only define one type of framing configuration per surface in Version 1.0.

I hope this helps - and thanks for posting the first question on the forum!!

Best regards
Andy
