DesignBuilder Training Days, London, March 2012

Dates: 5-9 March 2012
Location: Paddington, London.

We are offering a 5-day modular face to face training course in central London in March. The course will be an excellent opportunity to find out from the experts how to get the most out of DesignBuilder and learn best practice modelling techniques. It is suitable for new and experienced users alike and is structured to give you plenty of worked examples so you can 'learn by doing'.

You can choose to attend any of the 5 days according to your particular training requirements. Choose from 5 days:

  • Day 1, 5th March, Modeller. Suitable for beginners, the first day will help you to get up to speed with the DesignBuilder modeller. You will learn how to create blocks (with or without CAD floor plan data), how to zone the model for optimal performance of the simulation and setting up activities, constructions and glazing model data, component blocks and templates.

  • Day 2, 6th March, EnergyPlus Simulation*. For beginners and less experienced users. Learn how to set up and run EnergyPlus heating and cooling system sizing simulations as well as simulations using hourly weather data. Also how to set up schedules, electric lighting and daylight control solar shading, simple HVAC data and natural ventilation.

  • Day 3, 7th March, Radiance Daylighting and CFD*. Requiring no previous experience daylighting or CFD, this day provides a good foundation for using DesignBuilder Radiance daylighting and CFD for internal and external analysis. A worked example of a linked EnergyPlus - CFD simulation of a naturally ventilated building is included.

  • Day 4, 8th March, EnergyPlus HVAC*. For users with experience of using DesignBuilder with Simple and/or Compact HVAC, this day introduces the new detailed HVAC graphical user interface. At least 4 system types are covered including: fan coil units, chilled ceilings/heated floors, constant volume and VAV systems. Also learn how these system types can be combined.

  • Day 5, 9th March, Study Workshop*, for existing DesignBuilder users and attendees of Days 1 – 4, this workshop offers an opportunity to deepen your knowledge of DesignBuilder simulation by working with experts on your own projects and/or solving worked examples provided on the day. Worked examples will cover detailed HVAC systems, internal CFD with links to EnergyPlus simulation outputs, daylighting for LEED and BREEAM and advanced natural ventilation analyse of windcatcher-chimneys..

*Note that Days 2-5 all require previous experience with the modeller or attendance of Day 1.

90 day licenses for the Advanced simulation package will be provided so you can continue to work with the software after the training and consolidate your learning.

Cost

The cost is £300 per day. Discounts are available for booking 4 or 5 days or if more than person from your organisation are attending.

Please contact us for details of how to obtain a discount or for any other information about the course.

Trainers

The course trainers will be:

  • Dr Paul Carey - presenter, experienced DesignBuilder trainer and practising building simulation consultant
  • Dave Cocking - presenter, developer of the DesignBuilder online video tutorials
  • Dr Andy Tindale - assistant trainer, DesignBuilder developer with broad knowledge of the software
