DesignBuilder software is licensed using four modules and these can be purchased either individually or as part of a package. For the software to run, at least one module must be licensed. The 4 modules currently available are:

EnergyPlus

The EnergyPlus module allows you to run EnergyPlus dynamic thermal simulations from your DesignBuilder model. This module is also required for exporting data to EnergyPlus for more detailed HVAC studies outside DesignBuilder.

HVAC

The HVAC module provides a powerful and flexible way to access a wide range of EnergyPlus HVAC system types. It is possible to model both air and water sides together in full detail with a good range of components including all ASHRAE 90.1 baseline HVAC systems.

Daylightiing

The Daylighting module provides detailed daylighting data calculated using the Radiance daylighting simulation engine. Outputs include daylight contour plots, average daylight factor and uniformity outputs for each zone as well as standard compliance reports detailing eligibility for LEED EQ8.1, BREEAM HW1 and Green Star IEQ4 daylighting credits.

Certification (SBEM)

DesignBuilder SBEM is a fast and easy way to generate EPCs and check building designs against Part-L2 of the England and Wales Building Regulations, Section 6 of Scottish Building Regulations, Part F in Northern Ireland and Part-L in Republic of Ireland. The Certification module is also required for Portuguese IEE calculations.

CFD

Computational Fluid Dynamics allows you to analyse the distribution of temperature, pressure, comfort, velocity etc within the building as well as velocities and pressures outside.

Visualisation

The visualisation module provides rendered images, solar shading, walk-though and movie generation and can be used to generate highly graphic images, giving interest to client reports and for checking that the correct constructions have been applied to each surface in the building.
