Who should attend?

This course is for architects and specifiers and also energy assessors working with the design team to advise on compliance with building regulations. The course introduces the NEW fast simulation tool DBSim and will be suitable for those with no previous experience of DesignBuilder. It will be of particular value to those wanting to use one software package from concept building to technical design to create building models and assess the impact of design decisions on the environmental performance of the building using the integrated analysis tools. Designers and specifiers who need to convince clients that the building will have a good Asset Rating on the Energy Performance Certificate or need to demonstrate to Building Control that the building as designed will comply with the relevant building regulations should attend.

Course content

• Energy performance targets set by Building Regulations
• Developing concept buildings - working with sketches
• Importing floor plans and building models from other software tools
• Formatting the software to work with minimum of detail
• Developing the design - adding more detail for constructions and building services
• Performing the calculations - heating design/cooling design
• Summer overheating - specifying:
  • Gains
  • Heating & cooling schedules
  • Ventilation, scheduled and calculated
  • Shading

• Output options - annual, monthly, daily simulations etc
• Exporting images and data for inclusion in client reports and exporting building models for further analysis

Candidates will need to bring a laptop loaded with DesignBuilder to the course.

Trainees who have not previously purchased licences will receive a free 60 day training licence for the SBEM, Visualisation and DBSim/EnergyPlus simulation software.
