Purchasing FAQs

We've collected the common questions related to purchasing DesignBuilder on to this page. Please check the answers below before contacting us with your questions.

  • Annual subscription: If you have a valid annual license, one that has not yet expired, then you will recieve your v5 activation code by email from DesignBuilder UK or from your reseller.
  • Free upgrade period: If you purchased a v4 license on or after 1st June 2016 then you are eligiible for a free upgrade to v5. This will be sent to you by email from DesignBuilder UK or from your reseller.
  • 40% upgrade discount: If you purchased v4 before 1st June 2016 then you are entitled to a 40% discount for your v5 purchase. If you are entitled to an educational discount then the 40% applies in addition and you should contact us or your reseller for more details.

We've changed the package names to try and make things clearer for new users. However we are aware this may be slightly confusing for existing users looking to upgrade. So here's a summary of the changes.

You can either contact our sales team or use the on-line ordering system and select Quotation as your payment type. Your order will have the status of a quotation and can be easily converted to an invoice if you decide to go ahead with the purchase. If you are outside of the UK please check if there is a reseller for your country before buying directly from us.

You can buy individual modules you require, however if you can find a package that suits your needs it'll cost less than buying those modules individually. Also note that there are some module dependencies, Optimisation and HVAC require Simulation in order to work.

DesignBuilder Certification can be used on a pay as you basis. One credit is used for each building for which you generate an EPC and another credit for generating a Part-L report. See the Pay As You Go page for full details.

Annual licenses are renewed by purchasing a further annual license for the product you require. You will receive a new activation code and use that to activate DesignBuilder for a further year. There is a 10% early renewal discount that you can obtain by entering your existing activation code - the new annual license will run for 1 year from the expiry date of the old annual license. If your previous purchase was made using an educational discount voucher then you will need to contact us to get a new voucher code.

We provide priority technical support by for licensed users through the Support Desk where you can also view the DesignBuilder Knowledgebase. We do not provide telephone support for technical issues.

If you are running an evaluation version of DesignBuilder and have issues that need to be resolved before you purchase the product you can use the Support Desk or try asking a question in the Support Forum.

You may experience problems emailing or uploading large files (> 10Mb) to the support desk - if this occurs please use Dropbox or a similar file upload service and send us a link to your data file.

Just go to our Support Desk at support.designbuilder.co.uk and click Submit a Ticket. You will need to provide an email address so we can contact you with the response. We advise you to create a login on the support desk - this is a separate login to the DesignBuilder.co.uk website login. A support desk login lets you track your support issues and keeps a record of your previous support questions.

Please provide as much detail as possible about your problem, including the version of DesignBuilder you are running and your activation code.
